VAWT-X Energy is a start-up, limited liability company headquartered in South Australia. Our mission is to revolutionize wind energy by developing and commercializing cutting-edge 2-bladed vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) technology. Management
At the helm of VAWT-X Energy is Gary Andrews (BA, Grad. Cert. Bus. Admin), a seasoned entrepreneur and international businessman with extensive experience working with governments, global companies, NGOs, and Chambers of Commerce.
As Chief Executive Officer, Gary brings a results-oriented leadership style, strategic vision, and a proven ability to build and sustain relationships with diverse stakeholders. His extensive experience includes:
- Driving high-level mission-compliant operational initiatives to achieve strategic and commercial objectives.
- Developing strategic policies and operational initiatives to support growth, productivity, and profitability.
- Facilitating high-profile development projects through various stages of the project life cycle, while managing government and public interfaces.
- Working with executive management teams to implement business processes and operational strategies that create efficiencies and unlock new revenue streams.
Gary’s passion for renewable energy and the environment has been central to VAWT-X Energy’s vision. Notably, he co-authored a paper for the Government of Indonesia on “Environment, Climate Change, and Renewable Energy – Issues and Proposed Solutions for Adoption by Government.”

Our Journey
2010
- Early aerodynamic concept development begins.
2011
- July: Simulations confirm the technology’s merit and readiness for prototyping.
- October: First customer expresses interest and commits to purchasing four turbines.
2012
- February: X-Wind secures a Technology Strategy Board (TSB) grant to develop its first 6kW prototype.
- September: Successful completion of the first round of investment for X-Wind.
- November: Detailed design of the 6kW prototype turbine (VX-6) is finalized.
2013
- January: Tooling for the 6kW prototype is completed.
- February:
- X-Wind receives a TSB Innovation Voucher to investigate complementary storage solutions.
- Wins the DECC Renewable Entrepreneurs Fund for its innovative approach to renewable energy.
- April: The largest UK energy user expresses interest and supports the DECC project.
- May: The first 6kW prototype is successfully tested at West Medina Mills on the Isle of Wight.
2018
- August: The intellectual property and patent rights for X-Wind’s technology are acquired by Gary Andrews, an Australian entrepreneur and international businessman.
October: VAWT-X Energy Pty Ltd is officially registered in South Australia, marking the start of a new chapter for this groundbreaking technology.
